Identity verification (KYC)
Why it exists, what happens in the hosted flow, how long it stays valid, and what breaks if it lapses.
Experts handle real money belonging to other people, so we confirm that you are who you say you are before you can be hired. This is not a formality we could drop: it is what makes it reasonable for a stranger to fund escrow against your name, and it is what lets us answer a chargeback on your behalf.
Start verification
From your expert profile, choose to verify your identity. You are handed to a secure hosted flow run by our verification partner.
Submit a document and a selfie
A government ID plus a matching selfie. This happens on the partner’s pages — the document images are not stored by AutoGineer.
Wait for the result
Usually minutes, occasionally longer if a document needs a closer look. Your profile shows the pending state while it processes.
Verified
Expert-only actions unlock. We keep the result and the expiry date, not your document.
What we do and do not hold
AutoGineer stores
- Whether you are verified.
- When the verification was completed and when it expires.
- A reference to the verification session.
AutoGineer never stores
- Your ID document images.
- Your selfie.
- The raw document numbers from the check.
Verification expires
A completed check stays valid for 365 days by default, and you are warned 30 days before it lapses. Renew inside the warning window: if it expires, expert-only actions stop working until you re-verify, and that will happen at the least convenient possible moment.
Changing identity details can require re-verification
Changing your name, email, or profile picture pauses expert status pending review. See “Changing your profile during active work” before you edit anything identity-related.
Verification is about identity, not immigration or tax status. It does not make AutoGineer your employer and it does not register you for tax anywhere.
