Hiring an expert from a template

Attach a template to your hire request so the expert starts from the actual workflow instead of a description of it.

Templates are ready-made automation workflows. Hiring from one attaches the template to your request, so the expert can open and download exactly what you are pointing at. It removes the most common source of early confusion — the expert building their own interpretation of a workflow you already had in mind.

Public and owner-only templates

Template typeWhere the request goesWho can respond
PublicThe open job board, or directly to the author if you chooseAny approved expert, or just the author
Owner-onlyPrivately to the template’s authorOnly the author
Owner-only routing exists because some templates are the author’s own work product. Sending their template to the whole board to be re-implemented by someone else would not be reasonable.

What to say beyond “set this up”

A template is a starting point, not a specification. The work is almost always in the gap between the template and your business: your accounts, your field names, your edge cases, your error handling. Say what that gap is.

  • Which accounts and systems it has to connect to on your side.
  • What should happen when something fails — retry, alert, or ignore.
  • Any changes to the template’s logic you already know you need.
  • Whether you want it running on your own n8n instance or somewhere else.

Attaching a template does not commit you to it. If the expert proposes a better approach, you are free to take it — the template has done its job by making the conversation concrete.
